Did you know, Gorillas Share Over 98% Same DNA as Humans
Gorillas share over 98% of the same DNA as humans, making them susceptible to human disease and illness. Nat Geo Explorer and CTPH Founder & CEO Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zîkusoka work with the local community to educate and bring awareness to the effects a growing human population is having on the gorillas of Bwindi.
Through data collection, sample testing, and family planning seminars, Gladys and her team at CTPH work to improve gorilla health in Uganda by controlling disease transmission.
As we were filming in such close proximity, we were advised to wear facial masks to avoid any transmission.
