Abu Simbel – One of the most recognizable ancient sites after the pyramids 😍

πŸ“ Abu Simbel – If history had been different, these temples would not have been here today. Instead, they would have been under the water πŸ’§

Thanks to UNESCO, in the early 1960 the temples were carefully dissembled and then reassembled piece by piece to a higher location to save them from the rising waters of the Nile due to the high dam.

There are two main temples on the site. The grand temple where king Ramses || is seated on his throne and the smaller temple for his wife, Queen Nefertari.

These temples are only 20km from the Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡© border.

πŸ€” How to get there? 🚌

From Aswan, you can take a tour. It is 3.5 hours each way so quite a long journey but usually you will set off early morning and be back in Aswan just after lunchtime.

β˜€οΈ Best time to visit β˜€οΈ

If you want to take some good photos and have the place to yourself, visit after 9-10 as this is the time that all the tour buses arrive and it’s super crowded.
