How to travel around Kenya πŸš™ ✈️ πŸ›Ί

Getting around Kenya has not been as easy as I imagined!

Journeys are long, transport is never on time and the roads are very bumpy!Β  Travelling around here has definitely took more planning and prep than the usual rock up on the day and jump on whatever form of transport is the cheapest!

⬇️

Here are your options whilst in Kenya:

🏍 Motorbike 🏍

The easiest and cheapest way of getting around and the most popular form of transport used by locals. Convenient, fast and you can get them from anywhere- day or night!

πŸ›ΊΒ  Tuk tuk πŸ›Ί

Authenic, cheap and easy to find! You can get one anywhere on the street or book them the Uber app. Great for short journeys!

🚌 Local mini-vans are called Matatus. 🚌

Cheapest way of travelling around and they run all hours but are small, cramped and usually don’t have a set timetable- they leave when they are full! Luggage is thrown on the roof and the driving is an experience in itself πŸ˜‚

πŸš† Train πŸš†

Kenya has its own high speed train which was funded by the Chinese and operates several times daily from Nairobi to Mombasa. It is modern, comfortable and cheap! Definitely the best option to get to the coast 🌊

🚘 Uber 🚘

Used in most towns. You can request πŸš— or πŸ›Ί! Try and pay in cash πŸ’΅ otherwise most won’t accept card due to the large commission taken by Uber! Great for convenience and saves bartering with the price, however can be pricey for long journey!

πŸš™ Private driver πŸš™

Organise your own driver to take you wherever you want! Definitely the most expensive way of travelling, but comfortable and reliable.

If you plan to visit several places in Kenya and want to sit back and relax and have everything organised for you- Join a tour. We did ours with Lenchada safaris and it was amazing!

✈️ Flying ✈️

Domestic flights in Kenya are regular and run several times a day. If you’re pushed for time, this is the fastest way of moving around! You can also fly to the parks!

Which transport option you choose, depends on your time and budget! πŸ’°
